It’s a great idea to compare juicers before you buy one. This will allow you to find the perfect fit for what you want. Juicing is fantastic and with the right juicer, you will be able to make the absolute most of it.

If you’re looking to buy a juicer soon, my advice would be to pick one of the first three types below. Number four carries a massive price tag while number five is rather old-fashioned and not necessary since the electric motor was built. However, if you want to build your muscles while you juice, go for it.

1. Centrifugal Juicers

Centrifugal juicers are the most popular juicer around. When most people get into juicing, they often start with a centrifugal juicer.

I started with one and I’ve still got it. It’s fast, easy to clean and makes good juice. The motor spins at a very high speed and extracts the juice using the centrifugal motion. Due to the high speed, some nutrient loss occurs. You’ll find the pulp from these juicers to be quite damp as efficiency isn’t their strong point.

All in all, they make a great juicer. Make sure you get a good quality juicer with good reviews, such as the Breville Juice Fountain.

2. Masticating Juicers

A masticating juicer has one gear which it uses to extract juice. To masticate means to chew, grind or knead into a pulp. This is exactly how this machine works – it chews produce and lets the juice drip out.

With you compare juicers that masticate with centrifugal juicers, masticating wins on efficiency and nutritional content. With no spinning action, vitamins, minerals and important enzymes are preserved. These juicers make a great choice too, however they are a slower than centrifugal juicers.

3. Triturating Juicers

Triturating juicers are different again. While somewhat similar to masticating juicers, they use two gears instead of one. These two gears rub, crush and grind (this is exactly what triturate means) fruit and vegetables into fine particles. Compare juicers to this one and triturating juicers will generally win hands down.

That is, unless you want to invest a fortune in…

4. Hydraulic Press Juicers

A Norwalk hydraulic press juicer will set you back a massive amount USD! Are they worth it? It depends. If you want extremely high quality juice then they’re certainly worth looking into.

If you haven’t guessed already, these juicers simply press fruits and vegetables between two hard surfaces. This process leaves the pulp bone dry, meaning you extracted every last drop of juice. And because it’s of such high quality, you can keep the juice for up to three days in the fridge.

5. Hand Juicers

Hand juicers are exactly what they sound like. Buy one of these and you’ll be juicing by hand. One type is a citrus juicer which can be used to juice citrus (surprise!). The other type of hand juicer is a wheatgrass juicer.

Using either of these, you can make your own juice. You’ll even get some exercise in the process. But wouldn’t you rather enjoy the benefits of electricity? That way, you can juice in style.

It’s up to you. As you compare juicers, make sure to think carefully about what type will suit you best. If you’re in the middle of nowhere with no electricity, then a hand juicer is probably a good idea. However, if you’re in the middle of the city with a bit of extra time, grab a triturating juicer and make the most of the benefits of juicing.
