Should you do a carrot juice cleanse?
Juice fasting is all the rage these days and a carrot juice fast is no exception.
It’s easy to understand why. People are catching on to the benefits of healthy eating.
People want to experience amazing health, incredible energy and live longer. Imagine being in the best shape of your life. I bet you’d LOVE that. I know I would.
Many people flock to things like carrot juice fasts because they think it is an automatic ticket to the health of their dreams. Fast with carrot juice and all you’re problems will be solved; you’ll become slim and sexy, you’ll look 10 years younger and you’ll live longer.
Sadly, that’s simply not the case.
While juice fasting with carrot juice has many benefits, it’s certainly not a magic cure. It won’t solve all your problems and it won’t automatically get you in top physical shape. In the case of carrot juice, juice fasting for weight loss does not work. I’ll explain why below.
A carrot juice fast, like fasting with apple and orange juice, is a great way to increase the amount of yummy nutrients your body receives however it should be used properly and with sound education.
To get into the juice of the matter (pun intended), let’s talk about juice fasting.
Juice Fasting? Huh?
You know what fasting is?
You don’t eat. Not today and not tomorrow (assuming it’s at least a 2 day fast). Some people go for 40 days without food and some claim to have gone even longer, though they put themselves at serious risk when they do this.
During this time, people typically drink water and depending on how strict the fast is, they may consume small amounts of candy to keep their blood sugar up.
Juice fasting is simply fasting with juice. Pretty self-explanatory, right?
Well, here’s what’s great about it.
When a person does a typical fast (no food, just water), they may lack energy. While their mind often goes into overdrive, their body isn’t getting any nutrients and it can become dangerous or damaging to their health.
When a person fasts with juice, they don’t eat anything but they drink as much juice as they like. Since fruit juice is high in sugar, best results are achieved when a person focuses on vegetable juice.
Juice fasting is great because your digestion is relieved of its usual duty (since you haven’t eaten anything). This results in huge reserves of energy that you can use for other things. Unlike typical fasting, you’ll also be supplying your body with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in the form of juice.
Since fresh juice has been digested by the juicer (in a manner of speaking), you’re body does very little digestive work and as a result, it receives abundant nutrients and your energy goes even higher.
You can use this energy for whatever interests you. Many people meditate or perform yoga exercises. Also, with the increased energy, you’ll think clearer so it’s a great time for journaling and reflecting on things.
How to Do A Carrot Juice Fast
Doing a carrot juice fast is simple. Like an apple or orange juice fast, you just drink one thing – carrot juice.
However, before you jump head over heels to get started, be aware that carrot juice is high in natural sugar. Drinking carrot juice exclusively for a few days can send your blood sugar all over the place, from up high to down low. The natural sugar in excess carrot juice will also make it hard to lose weight while juicing.
If you’re interested in doing a juice cleanse, you’re better off juice fasting as normal, focusing on vegetables while avoiding fruits and minimizing high sugar vegetables. This would have the most positive effect on your body.
Like any drastic changes to your diet, talk to your doctor before you begin. Go in for a check-up and find out where your health currently stands and whether a carrot juice fast is a good idea. For some people (such as those with blood sugar related problems), a carrot juice fast is a BIG NO NO.
The night before you begin the carrot juice fast, eat a light dinner. I’m talking along the lines of a green salad with a glass of water. Don’t overload your body with anything heavy and don’t try to stock your body to bursting, simply because you won’t be eating for a few days.
The first day, drink carrot juice when you feel hungry. Do that every day. Decide before you get started how long you will fast for, and stick to that. Don’t try to go longer than is safe.
If you experience adverse effects or symptoms, stop the fast immediately and talk to your doctor.
One of the most common durations for juice fasting is 3 days, however a number of people go longer than that. The length of your fast should be relative to your current health, which is why you must talk to your doctor before beginning.

The benefits of a carrot juice fast are similar to a typical juice fast. You’ll experience a BIG boost in energy and your mind will be clearer than it typically is. With the increased amount of nutrients your body is getting, it will function at a higher level and you’ll experience cleansing and detoxing. These benefits will me more pronounced if you use vegetable juice, rather than primarily carrot juice.
Quick Tips for Succeeding
When fasting, make sure you drink a lot of water. With the human body being 60% water, your brain shrinks when you’re dehydrated.
At the very least, make sure you consume 3 liters of water a day. Don’t drink more than 5 liters.
To gain the full benefits of juice fasting, you’ll need to ensure that there is little to no pulp in the juice. This is because pulp can kick start metabolic action and will “break” the fast, in the sense that your digestive system starts moving again. This will result in you feeling hungry again which will only make juice fasting harder.
Benefits of Carrot Juice Fasting
Carrot juice is known for beta-carotene, a pre-cursor to vitamin A. It’s also high in other vitamins and minerals, so you’ll be getting a large amount of vitamins and minerals in an easily-digestible form.
The benefits of carrot juice also include being good for nursing mothers and minimizing heart disease. Carrot juice tends to lower high blood pressure. It’s a diuretic, so it helps for people who are having problems urinating.
